Safe to Say Hollywood Drunks is Doing “Swell”

Looks like people are picking up Hollywood Drunks new “Swell” album like it’s the new currency! But who could blame them, it’s they have done a ‘swell’ job putting this piece together.

If you don’t know Hollywood Drunks, imagine mixing the voices of Robin Zander of Cheap Trick and Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins; then imagine that their style of singing and music was more closely aligned to Anthony Kiedis and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Then imagine that all of those musicians got together with McCartney, Lennon and the rest of the Beatles to mix up harmonies like a boss. After all of that is done, throw in some random instances of David Bowie, and you have Hollywood Drunks. These wile coyotes have very cleverly mixed so many genres, (and they have done it so well) that there is no one genre you could tether them to. They have their own sound, and it sounds good!

Standing out even more, Hollywood Drunks sets themselves apart from the hum-drum selection of emo bands as a group that uses music to encourage others to press on. HD (if you don’t mind me using an abbrev.) uses both music and lyrics as a way to ‘celebrate’ rather than sulk into the dark corners of their problems by making their music what they call ‘whine-free’! The title track of their album, Swell does a great job of conveying this mantra with lyrics like “don’t get out of step, you haven’t had your best days yet…” Hollywood Drunks exposes their personal lives of being older and having children in tracks such as “Wake You” making them available for a wide range of audiences; this is rather brilliant.

All in all, Hollywood Drunks has a lot going on for them and one should not be surprised to see them continue making hit albums such as “Swell”. See them on ReverbNation or Facebook or check out http://www.hollywooddrunks.net to download three of their tracks for FREE!
