Golden Horn Interview

Golden Horn Live

Anchor Music News had the pleasure of doing an interview with Golden Horn. Stay tuned for a review of their latest album in the next few weeks.

AnchorMusicRob:How was the solo project started?

Golden Horn: After trying to have a band for years, I decided that Istanbul is a very big city to be a real part of the band understanding. Distances, time, and life conditions are pushing everyone back and because of this no one can focus for the band’s materials. I was writing whole compositions with bass lines and all drumbeats. So one day I came up with creating my solo project, with that way, even members of the band quit or change, project will never end.

AnchorMusicRob:Where did you get the name Golden Horn from?

Golden Horn:When I started to think about a stage name, I wanted to have a powerful, iconic one. Also I wanted to reflect my belongings, origins, environment etc. Golden Horn is a fiord near a most known part of Istanbul, Taksim. Almost all music industry, venues, rehearsal studios located around in Taksim. So my music life is also turned around that place. I am writing English lyrics and it means that is not limited by Turkish borders. That’s why I wanted to keep that forever and I think it is very suitable name for a mystic alternative music.

AnchorMusicRob:How has nature inspired your music?

Golden Horn: While I was writing songs, I was identifying Golden Horn’s concept. I used only acoustic guitar with analog guitar pedals, bass and drums are also written in very plainly and purely. The sound is totally natural. With that reason, best place to express the project is the nature itself. ‘Lucid’ is like a face of Golden Horn’s story. We have setted up, microphoned  and played the full set of the songs just for one time. We found ourselves in a connection with nature. It was quite interesting because that was the best performance we have ever played. I was predict that the power of nature could effect our performance before but never be sure until I testified it. Purely magic.

AnchorMusicRob: How has Istanbul impacted your music?

Golden Horn: Istanbul is a real cosmopolis with a huge population and acreage, that makes your feelings inconsistent. However the chaos is a permanent one. We are nourishing with eastern and western feelings together. I always interested with British music but there is a fact that we always listen oriental beats and feel eastern somehow and we cannot hide from that. So that may affect my sound as a harmony. Furthermore, I have spent my every summer in near Aegean Sea far from Istanbul and that also reflects as a different vibe.

AnchorMusicRob: What are your plans for the rest of 2014?

Golden Horn: In the beginning of 2014 Golden Horn released its debut E.P. After that I traveled as a one man tour to UK and gave performances in London, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh to share songs and launch the E.P. For the rest months of 2014, we will be performing at various venues in Istanbul but moreover we would like to play in Europe, UK and US. It is not easy to travel with band without any sponsors or any supporters. We are seeking for an opportunity.

AnchorMusicRob: What is your message?

Golden Horn:My messages are hidden in Golden Horn. It is like a life journey and journeys are always meaningful with their fellows. Be a part of that.

You can purchase Golden Horn‘s “Utter Reality” on iTunes, watch a live performance here, and listen to the full EP on Soundcloud.
