23 year old independent artist Taylor Mathews has walked a long way from his place on the America’s Got Talent stage, all while keeping his originality and acoustic guitar close by. The Louisiana native sang his way to the Top 10 in season five of the hit television show, and has since released a full length album, “Do What You Want To”. This same album is one that, incredibly, was funded by his fans via a Kickstarter campaign. It makes you wonder, how good do you have to be to have such a dedicated fan base that they’ll raise $26,000 for a record, and still want more? The answer to that is: Taylor Mathews good.
“Do What You Want To” did not disappoint, coming out at #6 on the iTunes chart the day of its release. The title track, which has recently been released as a music video, has a relaxed yet empowering feel. The ease in Mathews’ voice makes it that much better when you hear him cross over to more sentimental tracks, such as “Evergreen”, a ballad about eternity that would make even the biggest skeptic a bit of a hopeless romantic. All throughout the album, he stays true to the uniqueness and authenticity that earned him his notoriety in the beginning.
It’s this same uniqueness that continues to surprise and delight us. Mathews is currently finishing up The Hotel Party Tour, his first headliner round that has taken place in actual hotels throughout the country. In addition, the tour includes a photo booth, party bags, and other out of the box amenities for fans to enjoy. If you’re in one of the few lucky west coast cities that still have tour dates in the next month, you can find tickets at www.taylormathewsmusic.com
A genuine disposition is a necessity for lasting success that is too often overlooked; it’s even rarer to be matched by equally genuine talent. Between the impressive distinctions he’s earned and seemingly limitless potential, Taylor Mathews is surely an artist you’ll be wanting to watch. You never know what may be next!
