HeartSupport Plans to #UNITETHESCENE

Moments ago, the internet was flooded with a pound sign and three words, “#UNITETHESCENE” and the source? HeartSupport, a non-profit organization that provides an open community to struggling youth. Earlier today the non-profit started by August Burns Red lead singer, Jake Luhr, broadcast this message:

“HeartSupport began when I realized my fans had nobody to talk to about their struggles.” says Jake Luhr, founder of HeartSupport and lead singer of August Burns Red, “I created HeartSupport so my fans would have somewhere to go in the moments they need it most.”

“When you’re at a concert, you feel connected to everyone there–you love the same music, you wear the same clothes, you feel brave enough to talk to strangers you might never talk to anywhere else.” adds HeartSupport Project Manager, Nathaniel Hilpert.

Since the beginning, the active non-profit has been on a never-ending quest to utilize their connections with fans, their connections with bands, and somehow fuse them into a constant state of support and community for anyone who struggles with anything. They frequent concerts and tours such as the Van’s Warped Tour, which helps them spread the word and connect in person. #UNITETHESCENE is the new installment and another step forward to getting help to the people that need it the most, when they need it the most.

“The rules of life at a concert are simple: here, we’re family. #unitethescene is about bringing fans, bands, and music lovers alike together to be family outside of the venue walls.” continues Hilpert, “we’re trying to make HeartSupport the first step towards that. To have it be a place where when you get knocked down in life–bullied, abused, stuck in addiction, struggling–you have people to pick you up, you have a place to go, a home, where you’re safe and people love you.”

Several bands have already jumped on board to support this movement: Of Mice & Men, Pierce the Veil, Black Veil Brides, A Day To Remember, Issues, Motion City Sound Track, Echosmith, and so so many more. “Our hope is that we would transform this world so that no music fan would have to go through their struggles alone because they have family. That’s what #unitethescene is all about. Us, together. Because we’re better, stronger, more hopeful united.”

Watch this video, let it change your life, share it with your friends and let it change their lives. Communities like this need to exist for the people who need it; if you don’t need it, I would bet you might have needed it at some point in your life and there’s likely a friend of yours that does need it RIGHT NOW. Don’t let wonderful support groups like this fall through the cracks, let’s lift them up and support them supporting others when we can’t.
