Seconds To End Not Ending Anytime Soon

Don’t let their band name fool you, Albuquerque EDM/Metalcore band, Seconds To End has been quickly taking over the Electronicore music scene and there is no stopping them now. The played their first show as a band a little over a year ago, and since then have worked and recorded with some notable producers, been invited to record at Standby Records Studios, and have been featured on a few international compilation CDs.  Anchor Music News got to sit down with Matt Torres, lead-singer and guitarist of Seconds To End and talk more about this proliferating band.

AMN: “How’s it going?”

Matt: “Pretty good, man! I’ve just been working on some new music for my band.”

AMN: “Very nice! It seems like every time we talk, you’re doing something music related. How did you get started in music?”

Matt: “To be honest, I’ve always enjoyed listening to music as far back as I can remember. What got me into wanting to become a musician is when my uncle played the acoustic version of “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” by Poison for me one day. I was so moved by that piece, I just wanted to write and play something that beautiful so I asked my parents for a guitar for my birthday and the rest was history!”

AMN: “That is a great song! So who would you say influenced you as an artist? Growing up, is there a particular song or moment in music history that stuck out you?”

Matt: “Growing up, I’ve had many influences for sure but when I first started writing/playing music of my own, I utilized some of the scales and chords I learned from my favorite band at the time, Dear Whoever. Particularly a song by them called “Tears of Ashes”.”

AMN: “I’ve noticed you do a lot for your band, on and off the stage! You play guitar, sing, scream, help produce music and much more. That’s a lot to take on! What was your motivation for all of that?”

Matt: “I feel like I had a particular vision of what I wanted the band to sound like, I wanted to incorporate certain elements that I had only thought of at the start. I love what I See Stars is doing with their incorporation of EDM but wanted to expand on that to include pop punk type vocals with brutal deathcore screaming, Post-Hardcore guitar, even more, “true” EDM genres like some of the stuff you hear at these huge dance festivals and even underground stuff. I wanted to engineer this idea/sound and I think it’s starting to finally come into perfection.”

AMN: “I know all of you guys have played in various Albuquerque bands in previous years. How did you guys get together, and what brought you to form a band?”

Matt: “Ben, our guitarist, and I met at our workplace (call center for AT&T), we had the same taste in music and wanted to create something different so started as a two piece. Later, found Jimmy, our drummer, via a Craigslist ad. Lorenzo, who was Jimmy’s best friend for years, always hung out during our practices and shows and was recruited him to play bass for us! Isaiah, who is Lorenzo’s younger brother, joined very recently after we heard him perform at a local show and were blown away with his vocal abilities.”

AMN: “I would have never thought to look for band members on Craigslist. That’s pretty cool, and I’m glad it worked out for you! You guys have been a band for a little more than a year now. Seconds to End played their first show December 20th, 2013. Since then you’ve gained a huge following in just a short amount of time! People seem to really dig the music. It’s been an incredible journey to witness. What’s is like getting that kind of recognition?”

Matt: “Thanks! I love the following we’ve gained so far and it’s actually been a lot of hard work. We’ve promoted through tons and tons of social media outlets, blogs, review sites, promotional agencies, and we’ve treated it as a full-time job. With that being said, it’s very rewarding to receive the recognition we have so far and we only wish to work even harder in the next year! No stopping!”

AMN: “You guys have worked with some amazing producers, shot a music video with Sam Link, and have been featured on some notable international compilations. Do you have a highlight of your career so far?”

Matt: “We’ve worked with some great people in the industry for sure and we are very grateful for the opportunities. So far, the highlight of our career was our recording experience with Don DeBiase at Standby Studios in Cleveland, OH. Don and Neil Sheehan of Standby Records have treated us so well and provided free lodging and a great opportunity to work in a very professional setting. That was only a taste of what’s to come!”

AMN: “That’s so awesome! You guys put out a new single/music video on Halloween. It broke 10,000 views in the first day, and is currently at 33,000 on BlankTV. Tell me more about that, how does that make you feel?”

Matt: “We are very thrilled that people have taken a liking to our new song and music video. That was only a taste of what we have in the works currently. Seeing all the great positive reactions to our hard work like that, makes us feel very blessed and honored that what we work so hard on is receiving some excellent support and recognition.”

AMN: “Can you tell us a crazy tour or show story?”

Matt: “Well, a time that I will never forget is when we were on our way to Standby Studios, the first night of our trip we decided to stay in our car in Oklahoma City, OK at a Wal-Mart parking lot thinking it would be safe because of the 24-hour security. We were wrong, the entire night bums kept coming up to the car looking in to our vehicle and it made us extremely uncomfortable. One time in particular, we all yelled “get out of here” at the same time and really freaked the bum out and he had the silliest look on his face. I will never forget that moment because of how perfect it was.”

AMN: “You guys just announced a new member for you band. Another vocalist, to scream! What brought this decision on?”

Matt: “Isaiah is awesome! I love that kid. I honestly really missed playing guitar and wanted to get back into it with this band. Like I said before, Isaiah kills it with his screaming so he was a perfect match to do that for us while I get to play more eleborate and technical guitar stuff as I used to with my previous bands. The overall product will be more well-rounded.”

AMN: “What’s the future looking like for Seconds To End? Do we have anything we can look forward to? New music, more tours, anything like that?”

Matt: “The future is looking great for Seconds to End. We are currently going over a couple of tour ideas with some great major acts! Currently, we are working on an EP with said new vocalist and it is expected to be out hopefully by February (that’s the goal). There will be new merch, more videos and updates, just check the Facebook page for these details periodically or follow us on Twitter!”

AMN: “Thank you for your time, Matt!”

Matt: “Thank you! It’s always a pleasure.”
